In vitro susceptibility of Enterobacteriaceae towards seven cephalosporin antibiotics.

چکیده
The sensitivities of 226 clinical isolates of En~erobacteriaceae towards seven cephalosporin antibiotics were determined using an agar dilution method for establishing m.i.c. (minimum inhibitory concentration). The cephalosporins tested were cephaloridine, cephalothin, cephalexin, cefoxitin, cephradine, cefuroxime and cefotaxime. Cefotaxime showed the highest anti-bacterial activity among the cephalosporins tested. The other cephalosporins also had good antibacterial activity against Enterobacreriaceae with the notable exceptions of Enrerobacrer sp. and indole-positive Profeus sp. Only slightly over 50% of E. coli were found sensitive to cephaloridine and cephalothin.

Detection of favorable oral cephalosporin-clavulanate interactions by in vitro disk approximation susceptibility testing of extended-spectrum-Beta-lactamase-producing members of the enterobacteriaceae.
Extended-spectrum-beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing members of the Enterobacteriaceae are often resistant to multiple drug classes, making therapy of urinary infections with oral antibiotics difficult. Previously it was shown that amoxicillin-clavulanate can provide clavulanate inhibition of ESBLs and protect an oral cephalosporin present in combination when tested by broth microdilution. This st...
متن کاملMolecular detection of the New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-1 gene in Enterobacteriaceae isolates in a tertiary medical centre.
BACKGROUND New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-1 (NDM-1) is a relatively recent carbapenemase enzyme that inactivates all β-lactam antibiotics with the exception of aztreonam. This study aims to ascertain the baseline prevalence and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of NDM-1-producing Enterobacteriaceae in a tertiary medical center in Malaysia. METHODS Over a period of one year, all Enterobacteria...
متن کاملAntimicrobial resistance in Enterobacteriaceae in Brooklyn, NY: epidemiology and relation to antibiotic usage patterns.
In November 1997, all Enterobacteriaceae isolated at 15 hospitals in Brooklyn were collected. Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) were present in 44% of 409 Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates. Six isolates had reduced susceptibility to carbapenems, including two that were not susceptible to any of the antibiotics tested. Pulsed field gel electrophoresis revealed a commonality of resistant iso...
متن کاملEvaluation of current activities of fluoroquinolones against gram-negative bacilli using centralized in vitro testing and electronic surveillance.
Given the propensity for Enterobacteriaceae and clinically significant nonfermentative gram-negative bacilli to acquire antimicrobial resistance, consistent surveillance of the activities of agents commonly prescribed to treat infections arising from these organisms is imperative. This study determined the activities of two fluoroquinolones, levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin, and seven comparative...
متن کاملPrevalence of Multiple Drug Resistant Clinical Isolates of Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Producing Enterobacteriaceae in Southeast Iran
Background: Multidrug resistance and production of extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) by enteric gram-negative rods in hospitals and community continue to be worsened. We aimed to characterize the multidrug resistance and determine the prevalence of ESBL production by clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae in southeast Iran. Methods: Gram-negative bacteria isolated from clinical samples of...
